As a former Miss North Carolina USA, Nadia Shirin Moffett, witnessed firsthand the problems that young women faced—not only from the perspective of human needs like self-esteem and confidence but in the areas of education and access to opportunity. This drove Nadia to ask two questions: “What do girls need to be at their best?” and “What can I do to provide a significant impact to these girls and families in a way that really works?” The answers to these questions led her to develop The Queens Foundation, a statewide program offering young women of all nationalities the resources and guidance to be confident and competent to achieve their goals of higher education and leadership.
The Queens Foundation ensures first generation young women earn a four-year degree and lead in their careers and community. The program includes mentoring, internships, scholarships, college preparation, academic development and basic skills for girls beginning as young as the 7th grade. The Queens Foundation enables girls who come from challenging situations to become change agents not just for themselves, but also for their families and communities.
Since joining The Woman’s Advantage® Forum, Nadia has been able to scale up her program by expanding geographically from seven schools to eighteen, and obtaining larger grants and corporate support than ever before. During her first year in The Woman’s Advantage®, The Queens Foundation funding increased 180%, and is on track to continue and exceed that level of growth!
