As July and August approach, why not set yourself up for the best summer ever? What would that look like? Not just lazing around (although that’s certainly part of it) but really focusing on making great things happen in your life.
Here are five ideas to consider.
5 Ways to Have Your Best Summer Ever
1. Give up “taking care” of everyone.
Trust that other people can solve their own problems. Take the time that you’d spend their problems and do something fun or productive with it. You deserve it and so do they!
2. Stop trying to please everyone.
Rather than focusing your time and energy on making everyone happy with you, give yourself a break and focus on doing what is important to you.
3. Create time to play.
If you’re an early-morning person, dedicate those hours to working really hard, and the reverse if you’re a night owl. Then condense your work efforts to create additional time for play. Remember, you’ll never again be younger than you are right now.
4. Don’t compare yourself to others.
The media sets us up for failure by showing us images of celebrities with beautiful children and successful careers who never stop smiling. Remember these women have a staff to cook, clean, nanny…and don’t be thinking they do their own laundry or clean up after dinner! Create a habit this summer of comparing yourself only to the woman you see in the mirror.
5. Set realistic expectations.
I’ll share that I’ve lost eight pounds over the past seven months and I consider that a huge success. Don’t set yourself up for failure by planning to drop 20 pounds in four weeks. Unrealistic goals will create an unhappy summer, while realistic ones will create the best summer ever.
